988 Suicide Prevention Crisis Phone and Text Lines Go Nationn Wide Today 7/16/22

Editor's note: The implementation of 988 over the first nine months has been difficult for much of rural America. (1) Congress left full funding up to the States, (2) Rural and Remote counties lacked infrastructure: (No ICU Safe beds in the county, limited Behavioral Health practitioners, no Crisis Response team, limited Behavioral Health and often medical health services in county schools); (3) Few if any trained Crisis line counselors except possibly 911 dispatch, and little or no experience with crisis text lines, the method most youth use today during crisis, and lack of knowledge of emojis they often use when describing the level of crisis they are in; and (4) crisis line counselors not understanding appropriate protocol when working with LGBTQ2AI+ youth who haven't come out to their parents or guardians. Awkward Silence

Suicide prevention must be transformed by integrating injury prevention and mental health perspectives to develop a mosaic of common risk public health interventions that address the diversity of populations and individuals whose mortality and morbidity contribute to the burdens of suicide and attempted suicide. Emphasizing distal preventive interventions, strategies must focus on people and places—and on related interpersonal factors and social contexts—to alter the life trajectories of people before they become suicidal. Attention also must be paid to those in the middle years—the age with the greatest overall burden. We need scientific and social processes that define priorities and assess their potential for reducing what has been a steadily increasing rate of suicide during the past decade. - American Public Health Association

The R U OK?  Campaign
This campaign was first developed in Australian in 2009 with the intention of becoming an international program. Ongoing research shows the continuity continues to make the program strong so they haven't changed it since 2009, just added to it with toolkits, flyers, and other programs. I was asked to join on July 5, 2016 and produced and ordered the first R U OK? crisis wallet cards July 21, 2016. As long as I follow their Brand Identity Guidelines I have their blessing to produce banners, posters, flyers, wallet cars, display units, brochures, T-shirts, ball caps, wrist bands, mugs, pens, magnet car panels, even face masks. And I have done them all in the last five years. So, there's no copy infringement involved. Enjoy some of the videos that provides an insight into the powerful, successful campaign.

Are you a Courageous Volunteer

What to expect when you call/chat/text a crisis line

If this is your first time calling a support line for help, you may have questions. Someone will be there to listen and support you.

What happens?

  • The person will ask your name and how they can help
  • They may ask for other personal information to help you but you’re never required to share
  • They will keep what you say confidential
  • They will listen to you with compassion
  • They will not judge you or tell you what to do
  • They may give you ideas about where to find more help or how you can find a counselor

The crisis line will not share your information unless there are signs of abuse, neglect, or they are worried about harm to yourself or others. Please go to the organization’s website to learn more about their privacy policies.

What's ironic about this BBC story about Montana is no support was given for boys or sons. I think the camp had boys in it, but they were ignore and they are going to be the ones being toughened up without using the situation to teach them differently. It's just growing another generation of Big Boys Who Don't Cry. Just remember, "Boys will be who we teach them to be." When will you change the teachings?

Editor's warning: Part of this documentary shows how religious people try to interfere with a dying person's desire to end their suffering. They seem to be more interested in keeping someone suffering, especially when the medical community can't remove the pain and suffering. And, while the medical community has an ethics clause, is it really ethical to extend someone's suffering. We are only providing this video to show what the religious culture and it's religious laws often do to force people to live in pain. No wonder so many men end their lives with a gun, especially vets. Because they aren't allowed to exit this life. It's a sick level of a Christian Supremacists religious morality and the laws that those people who have taken over our laws to follow their religious teachings. It's a clear case of a coordination of religion and government.
